Klout & Node-RED...

To enrich the previous prototype "Social listening with Node-RED & Silverpop" based on a comment from @Bollaert, Benjamin, I have designed a new node to retrieve Klout score of a twitto.

Klout is a website and mobile app that uses social media analytics to rank its users according to online social influence via the "Klout Score", which is a numerical value between 1 and 100. In determining the user score, Klout measures the size of a user's social media network and correlates the content created to measure how other users interact with that content.

That value can be relevant to analyze if the positive or negative will have a significant impact for you... The beautiful of Node-RED is I can easily add that node in my previous flow to directly and automatically leverage it..

Social Listening with Node-RED & IBM Silverpop

IBM Silverpop, Node-RED, Bluemix, System of Engagement, Social, Twitter, Mobile...
What is the link between all of these words/solutions/concepts?

Basically, systems of engagement refers to the transition from current enterprise systems designed around discrete pieces of information ("records") to systems which are more decentralized, incorporate technologies which encourage peer interactions, and which often leverage cloud technologies to provide the capabilities to enable those interactions.

Can I easily linked my Marketing Solution (in that case IBM Silverpop) with Social Channels like Twitter ans so being able to easily engage with my customer?
For example, during a product launch event, I would like to track all tweets (positive or negative) around a hashtag, and linked that tweets to my existing customer database. It is for a short period of time, I don't have an important budget, a long period of time to write specification and to develop it...
Or my Sales team would like to collect all Social interaction and correlate them with customer database.

I'm a big fan of the Node-RED technology, developed by IBM jStart work, available on IBM Bluemix. Node-RED is a tool for wiring together hardware devices, APIs and online services in new and interesting ways, without "tough" development. I have designed a "prototype" in less than one day.
The use case is simple:
  1. Track in real-time all tweets with hashtags #rabviptest & #viprabtest.
  2. Do a sentiment analysis using AFINN, and retrieve a score on the tweet - Positive or negative tweet.
  3. Send a mobile push notification to my two Social marketers on their mobile phone.
  4. Store the twitter account name, numbers of followers and location of the twittos in one IBM Silverpop Profil table.
  5. Store the twitter account name, numbers of followers and the sentiment of the tweet in one IBM Silverpop Relational table.
Option 4 illustrates the possibility to easily create a customer database based on Twitter interaction.
Option 5 illustrates the opportunity to store all twitter interaction and use that information for future retargeting with IBM Silverpop, and being able to capitalize on all Social interaction.

Node-RED provides interesting nodes, in my case, I use :
1) Twitter input node. It can be used to search either:
  •     The public or a user's stream for tweets containing the configured search term
  •     All tweets by specific users
  •     Direct messages received by the authenticated use
2) Sentiment node to retrieve sentiment score of the tweet.

And, I have developed custom nodes:
1/ Mobile Push notification leveraging IBM xtify APIs
2/ Silverpop Node for:
   - Insert into relational database,
   - Contact creation in the Profile database.

 Node-RED Flow:

Example of tweets:

Negative tweet

Positive tweet

Notification on the mobile:
I receive in real-time a push notif with an info on the person who has tweeted and the sentiment linked to that tweet.

Silverpop Opt-In:

First approach: Simple opt-in
Two new contacts have been created after tweeting on the specified hastag. As you can see, they don't have email, but I can start to collect information on them.

Entries in a Relational Database:
Second approach: Capitalize social information on my existing customer database.

1/ My customer database:

2/ My Relational database:

I can know, for example, use these info for my customer segmentation or for advanced personalized content in email.
Example of query using that info:

In that prototype, I have captured the number of followers of my twitto, but I can easily imagine to retrieve the Klout of the  twitto via another custom node.
The idea is to be able to evaluate the influence and differentiate my communication based on that parameter.

That prototype has been imagined and co-designed with @rabenandrasana.

Making "Polycom RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite" Social with IBM Connections

Room videoconferencing has been around for years, of course, but until now it hasn't been applied on a wide scale to social networking. Imagine an easy integration between Social Networking platform leader like IBM and Polycom Video Conferencing Solutions… To drive user adoption, video needs to be contextually integrated within Business Process or applications.

Last year, IBM has introduced a tech preview: IBM Sametime Video Chat Widget. It provides an easy way to associate a Sametime audio/video session with an IBM Connections Community page. I have extended that integration via Polycom technology to provide multipoint video conferencing in continuous presence mode (here). But, some clients haven’t deployed IBM Sametime or their Sametime server is not integrated with their IBM Connections platform.

Polycom has just delivered a new solution in its portfolio: Polycom RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite. With a browser and web camera on a PC, smartphone, or a tablet, Polycom RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite extends web video collaboration to anyone.
This solution provides, via a set of REST APIs, all features to design the same kind of integration as the Sametime Video Chat Widget.

I have developed a prototype to illustrate this use case.  Let’s suppose that there is a team of newly hired employees who join a new-hire community to share their common knowledge and successes to become productive, faster.  Or the community could be a group of developers who are Java experts who are sharing design tips. Or a virtual help desk community.

In this prototype, any member of a community can attend a video collaboration session.  If no “Video Collaboration meeting” is in progress, one community member can start it, then all member will be able to see that and can join the meeting in progress via a single click. Audio and video can be automatically started for each person as soon as they enter the room.

Polycom RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite extends secure enterprise-grade Polycom video collaboration to anyone with a browser and web camera. Embedding it in business process through a seamless integration will allows you to drive Social & video adoption.

Polycom & IBM Connections Suite...

An example of Social Communications

IBM Connections Suite provides IBM’s social software, real-time social communications capabilities in a single offering. IBM Connections Suite is comprised of IBM Connections, IBM Sametime Advanced, IBM Sametime Unified Telephony Lite Client, IBM FileNet Content Manager (restricted use), and IBM Lotus Quickr Connectors.

Via this bundle, you can easily enhance the integration between Social & Video.
Imagine you are looking for someone, an expert on SIP technology in IBM Connections.

The IBM Connections business card provides you a snapshot of your expert profile information and contact details. You can adapt the card to change the information that it includes. In that example, I have added a new link allowing you to directly call Expert's Polycom video endpoint.
The call will be done between your IBM Sametime Client (via SUT lite feature) and the expert's endpoint.

How does it work?

It is very easy... I used three features of IBM Connections Suite in addition to Polycom Realpresence infrastructure (Polycom DMA & HDX).
  • IBM Connections Business Card Customization (here)
  • IBM Sametime Unified Telephony Lite (here)
  • IBM Sametime WebAPI Toolkit (here)
I have modified the file named LotusConnections-config.xml in my IBM Connections platform to add this element:

 <sloc:serviceReference serviceName="polycomService"  href="http://localhost:59449"   enabled="true"
     ssl_href="http://localhost:59449"   ssl_enabled="false"
     person_card_service_url_pattern="/stwebapi/call?number={telephoneNumber}"
     person_card_service_name_js_eval="'My Polycom endpoint'"/>

That element will use the REST service "http://localhost:59449/stwebapi/call?number=" and the parameter{telephoneNumber} which is the profile user's telephone number.

IBM Connections 4 live on Greenhouse...

IBM have just deployed IBM Connections 4 on Lotus Greenhouse platform... (here). You can now test all new great features of that release.

You can take action on content directly from your Activity Stream without switching contexts (via OpenSocial Embedded Experience)..

  • Easily share files & images in your status updates and images can easily preview as thumbnails.
  • Provide feedback in status updates by using a single click to indicate 'Like'. See and find others in the organization who liked the entry.
  • Follow conversations via hashtags.

  • Share your contents from any pages via ShareBox.
The "ShareBox" feature allows you for the integration of OpenSocial gadgets such as accessing a forum, posting content to an ERP system, posting content to an Activity, or sending a quick e-mail so that a social business can become more nimble and collaborate more broadly.

And now awesome features :) :)...

Are SharePoint and Connections the New UC Clients?

I just read a very interesting article named "Are SharePoint and Connections the New UC Clients?"
On sentence is very important in that article: "The challenge to all of us in the enterprise communications and UC market is to embrace this delivery of communications as part of a business process, rather than as a separate silo which requires the user to switch from one application to another."

The link between Polycom RealPresence and IBM connections illustrates that powerful idea... Contextual collabration & Communication. That demo show this in action (here).

UC2 is definitely the action behind Social Business, providing tools you use when you need to do business now.

Polycom® RealPresence™ Social solutions extend HD video collaboration to "business social" networks—giving you new ways to connect and collaborate.

Video-enabled social platforms give you a new and powerful way to connect face-to-face with people in your business and social circles. With real-time video you have richer conversations, learn more, persuade more effectively, make better decisions faster, and bring more firepower to any team's productivity. Polycom RealPresence Social solutions allow you to:

  •     Make point-to-point and multi-point group calls in real-time through your Web browser.
  •     Record meetings or video messages.
  •     Archive videos for others to retrieve and view asynchronously.

Social Networking & Gamification

Definition of Wikipedia : Gamification is the use of game design techniques and mechanics to solve problems and engage audiences.

Driving the Social Networking user adoption is fundamental. Gamification is a key element to drive that user adoption. Gamification will help to transform and accelerate organisations user adoption of IBM Connections by encouraging users to leverage the full range of social services.

By 2015, more than 50 percent of organizations that manage innovation processes will gamify those processes, according to Gartner, Inc.

Via Business Partners like Kudos or Bunchball, you can add this capability into IBM Connections.
Today, we had just finalized the deployment of Kudos solution into the IBM Connections demo platform of the IBM Collaboration Solutions Center.

You can watch an interesting session delivered last week at IBM Connect at Orlando

IBM Connections 3 SPI & SMS

One of my french colleague has just published an article regarding the usage of IBM Connections SPI.
SPI could be very useful to handle events. In that blog entry, he shows you how to automatically send a SMS when you send an invitation to someone.

In that scenario, he has used his own android device as SMS gateway, but you could imagine to use a real SMS gateway, using the same principle.

An idea to drive Adoption of IBM Social Collaboration Tools

A growing number of companies are finding that Social Software complement and extend conventional collaboration and communication platforms focused on e-mail, custom tools, and intranets by providing new, flexible, and informal ways for employees to interact and share information. Social Software fosters networks that drive COLLABORATION and therefore INNOVATION.

IBM Social Software :
  • Facilitate increased communication across organizations and geographies
  • Stimulate innovation of new ideas for products, services and go-to-market strategies
  • Improve ability to more rapidly respond to customer needs and inquiries
  • Reduce rework and improve quality of people's delivery materials
  • Decrease the learning curve of new employees
  • Make better decisions, knowing they were vetted by experts across the organization and reflect past experience

How to drive adoption of IBM Connections ?

How to enable people to connect with people ?
The value of social software increases exponentially when people can connect to their social networks at anytime, from anywhere and easily....

Social Networking is mainly based on the network you have created inside your organization. The question is : How could you easily build your network ? Your network must have be important in order to spread your ideas and be inform about your colleagues' publications.
Repeated studies have shown that the longer a project team stays together without significant changes in its composition, the less likely it is to come up with ideas that lead to innovations. So, it's important to have your direct colleagues in your social network, but someone in a different specialty is also important (« Weak ties are strong »). You can meet him in a meeting or at the coffee machine..
Imagine you could use your mobile or a specific device ? Simply by shaking your phones or a specific device you can add him to your network, in order to keep a track of him...
Using your mobile :
Via an app, you could imagine to connect with someone. By leveraging geolocation capabilities of mobile, we can recognize someone near you and send him an invitation.
Screenshot of a mockup :
Initial screen of the application :
 After shaking near someone :

Introduction of the architectural concept :
To validate the feasibility, we have designed a mockup based on a J2EE Application. The web application send your location (longitude & latitude) to the server. If two location are received at the same time, the app will send an "IBM Connections" invitation to both, using the IBM Connections invitation APIs. In that mockup, the Web App uses HTML5 Geolocation API.

Using specific device : Poken
During an event, I met someone from the company Poken. Poken has developped a small device which allow you share your social business card. I have instantly imagined the use of that technology for internal social platform in conjunction with IBM Connections.
An example of Poken Spark :
High level overview of the architecture :
Imagine that technology during a event to leverage IBM Connections during a two-day customer event...

The success of an event can be measured by the number of significant connections established between participants; new professional contacts, new business partnerships, new leads. That device are also ice breakers and conversation starters. You could even imagine to brand your poken. IBM has already used that technology during customer's events.

NFC Technology :
Near field communication, or NFC, will allow for simplified transactions, data exchange, and wireless connections between two devices in close proximity to each other, usually by no more than a few centimeters. t is expected to become a widely used system for making payments by smartphone, but I'm sure we will see a democratization of that technology to support social networking platform.
